The tunable Tongue Drum has 8 notes in circumference and a central Ding, the Ding is tuned in E with three harmonics: The octave, the upper fifth as well as a second octave.
Of the 8 notes in circumference, 6 of the notes are equipped with a rail system with a counterweight which allows you to change its tuning in a very simple and intuitive way. Simply move the counterweight from one side of the guide to the other to change the note by a semitone.
This tuning system, both very simple to use and very complete, allows you to adapt the instrument to all musical situations, changing ambiance in the blink of an eye.
It is not necessary to use a tuner, nor to have knowledge of music theory to tune it!
The thickness of the cups guarantees great tuning stability, so your instrument hardly goes out of tune during large temperature changes, and once returned to room temperature the tuning returns to normal. The guide system allows you to change the chosen note by a semitone with great precision by moving the counterweight from one end of the guide to the other.
As shown in the diagram opposite, if the counterweight is towards the center of the instrument the note will be full (for example C), and conversely if the counterweight is placed towards the outside of the instrument it will be in # (e.g. C#).
The instrument is only offered on the Si range. As a result, the central note (Mi3) and its three harmonics (Mi4 Si4 Mi5) are not tunable, the following notes of the scale with the tuning system allow you to use all notes of the chromatic scale.
The second diagram shows the notes of the instrument, the notes indicated such as C<>C# can be tuned to one or the other, you will notice that the only non-tunable notes are B and E , for the sake of harmony with the central note and its non-tunable harmonics. These two notes being the only notes without a semitone, it is the only scale which allows access to all the notes of the chromatic scale without creating disharmony with the Ding.
Exception, the highest note (at the top of the diagram) can be tuned to three different notes.
Newbies, fear not :)
It may seem complicated but theory is not essential! Tell yourself that by simply moving a few weights along a guide you will be able to change the atmosphere of your instrument, from joyful, melancholic, oriental mood, here everything is accessible and the possibilities are very numerous!
But the system is above all designed to make it simple and ergonomic; all you have to do is let yourself be guided by the manual supplied with your instrument and the small tuning card to navigate among these different ambiances!
The tunable Tongue Drum can be tuned to 440hz or 432hz, but the choice is final and must be made when ordering!
Like all our creations, you can personalize your instrument yourself! We can make the engraving of your choice! The Tongue drum can also be equipped with a piezo microphone and become electro-acoustic!

Cover

Cork
A soft and removable cap is clipped under the instrument, this cap allows for a better sound experience, it also ensures good vibration of the instrument when placed on a hard surface.
It is possible to remove the cap to gain access to the interior of the instrument and thus modulate its tuning.
In the case of a sound massage, with the instrument placed on the patient's stomach it is also preferable to remove the cap to better feel the vibrations, it is also more comfortable.
Mallets
A pair of mallets made by us is offered with the instrument. The mallets are made from chenille wool, they are both rigid for good resonance and very soft to avoid the sound of impact.
Avoid rubber or plastic mallets, the impact is very present and degrades the quality of the sound experience.
You can also play with your hands! A little training is necessary but it allows more possibilities as well as better vibration control!

Optional: Piezo Microphone
A piezo microphone can be installed to amplify your instrument, use effects or make recordings. The microphone is glued with epoxy and covered with a thin layer of varnish for its longevity. This passive microphone is the same as those used in basses or electric guitars, it generates a low sound signal and must be used correctly to work well. A guitar or bass amp, or even a sound card is essential to achieve a correct result.
The advantage of this microphone is that it picks up the vibrations of the instrument, so it is not disturbed by the surrounding sound. It adds a lot of character to the impact sound on the instrument, new possibilities open up to you and adds a percussive character to the Tongue drum, by tapping on the side of the instrument for example.
